International Trips:
As globalization continues the world becomes a smaller place through advances in communication technologies, the need becomes greater for youth in the U.S to be interconnected with youth in other cultures, each learning about the other’s social, economic, political worlds.
Our academic enrichment program provides a structured opportunity for students to exchange their digital stories, poems, comedy routines, and music with youth in South Africa, India, and New Zealand. We have already established relationships with professors, teachers, and schools in these countries, and the D.U.S.T.Y project has already piloted a digital story exchange between children in Utter Pradesh India, and Oakland.
We are especially interested in developing an exchange with youth in South Africa and New Zealand, who have used D.U.S.T.Y materials provided to them last year to begin a similar program in that country for those indigenous young people who are most at risk of dropping out of school.
